Didn’t See That Coming

The remarkable and unforeseen success of efforts to reduce nuclear dangers.

Things are dangerous today, but it was even worse in the early decades of the Cold War.  The Cuban Missile Crisis, the Taiwan Straits Crises and other events took the US and the world to the nuclear edge. But citizens and governments reversed course and reduced the danger.

Over time, the US and Russia dismantled more than 63,000 nuclear warheads.
